Activity #1

For my first class activity, I've been tasked with "e-Service Observation" (see details below). I chose to observe someone using Craigslist.com. Here are some of my notes and observations:

e-service: Craigslist.com
description: provides local classifieds and forums for jobs, housing, for sale, personals, services, local community, and events
observee characteristics: senior citizen
service environment: basement office/room in the observee's home
emotions of user: frustrated, confused
technology interface: busy, complicated

key words to describe what I observed: confusion, complicated, frustration

Craigslist.com was not an easy service for this person to use. The interface posed significant complications for the user, as she was not sure what to do, where to go, nor how to do what she intended.

e-Service Observation

Choose an e-service that you can observe. This may be use of an online web site like Facebook, use of an information kiosk such as the one we have here at Ross, use of a metaverse like SecondLife, or a student service like online course sign-up. Choose someone such as a friend to observe while they use the service. Observe the user while she uses the service. Take notes of your observations in your Innovation Journal. Pay special attention to the entire service system (service environment, emotions of user, technology interface, etc.). Be prepared to discuss in class on Thursday. Note that the observed student will remain anonymous.

welcome to etavonni !

Welcome to my BIT 378 Innovation Journal/Blog. Titled "etavonni" (innovate backwards), this blog is a means to share my journey of innovation, as I learn and explore design thinking. In this blog I will include activities assigned in class, notes, and other observations.

Right now I am reading "Change By Design," written by the CEO of IDEO, Tim Brown. This book along with other select articles, videos, and guest speakers will guide my journey these next 14 weeks. Comments, questions, and of course ideas, are welcome!

Thanks for reading!
